OSU Recovery Month Substance Use Disorder Awareness and Prevention Course- Free

A lifelong resident of central Ohio, Dr. Borland graduated from Sheridan High School in Thornville, Ohio in 2002. He enjoyed participating in varsity golf and spent his free time hunting, fishing, and playing pool with friends. Upon graduation from high school, Dr. Borland pursued his undergraduate education at Ohio Wesleyan University where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in politics and government. While there, Dr. Borland served as President of Delta Tau Delta before accepting a one-year position with the American Red Cross in 2007. Following his time with the Red Cross, Dr. Borland entered medical school at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine where he graduated from in 2011. During his medical school education, Dr. Borland spent 3 years of residency training at Ohio Health Doctors Hospital training in Emergency Medicine. It is Dr. Borland’s own alcoholism and drug addiction that led him to enter long-term, inpatient treatment at Shepherd Hill in Newark, Ohio. After completing treatment, he began volunteering his time to teach others about the disease of addiction. Dr. Borland then started lecturing at various medical schools and residency programs, sharing his own experiences and treatment options for those struggling to get help. As a result of his struggle with addiction, Dr. Borland’s medical license was revoked and he was unable to begin practicing medicine until 2018. After several years of hard work, dedication, and intense education on the subject of Addiction Medicine, Dr. Borland began serving as Medical Director for a central and southern Ohio treatment center. In the summer of 2020, Dr. Borland proudly joined Basecamp Recovery Center in Columbus, Ohio where he currently serves as Medical Director.

Robert J. Graessle, DO - serves as the founder and CEO of Basecamp Recovery Center. Prior to this role, Dr. Graessle served as an emergency medicine physician at Grant Medical Center. With strong ties to the Franklington and Hilltop area, Dr. Graessle knows and understands the Columbus west side population well. His primary goal is to give back to the community and assist in repairing damage to this area left in the wake of the current opiate crisis.

With an accomplished career of executive and entrepreneurial achievements in private, public and nonprofit business development strategy, management and leadership, Stu is the Chief Development Officer of Basecamp Recovery Center and the Begin the Climb program. Additionally, Stu is a licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (CDCA) and has 30+ years of continuous and active recovery serving as the Board President of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Delaware-Morrow Counties, Treasurer for The House of Hope and board member of the Serenity Street Foundation.

Coco is a trained emotional support dog. He is 4 years old and weighs just under 50lbs. He is a goldendoodle F2B born in Midland, MI. He received his emotional support training from Marcum K9 in Reynoldsburg, OH. He has been with us since startup and is an integral team member. He does his work with style and grace. In his free time, he likes to play fetch and chew on soft toys.
