Following his time with the Red Cross, Dr. Borland entered medical school at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine where he graduated from in 2011. During his medical school education, Dr. Borland spent 3 years of residency training at Ohio Health Doctors Hospital training in Emergency Medicine.
It is Dr. Borland’s own alcoholism and drug addiction that led him to enter long-term, inpatient treatment at Shepherd Hill in Newark, Ohio. After completing treatment, he began volunteering his time to teach others about the disease of addiction. Dr. Borland then started lecturing at various medical schools and residency programs, sharing his own experiences and treatment options for those struggling to get help.
As a result of his struggle with addiction, Dr. Borland’s medical license was revoked and he was unable to begin practicing medicine until 2018. After several years of hard work, dedication, and intense education on the subject of Addiction Medicine, Dr. Borland began serving as Medical Director for a central and southern Ohio treatment center. In the summer of 2020, Dr. Borland proudly joined Basecamp Recovery Center in Columbus, Ohio where he currently serves as Medical Director.
